battery/alternator/drain? Sign In

2004 Mazda 6, 4 cy, 74K Km
great car so far
All of a sudden - the battery dies after a 100Km trip and sitting on the driveway for a couple of hours
Jump-strted the car and turned on no problem on the first try and went on to drive thecar around - after a few minutes of driving the lights started to flicker and the radio would turn on and off

I only have a voltmeter - not an ammeter - I checked the voltage w car off and it measures 12.87V
Tried to start the car and it does not but all the lights flicker like crazy, the speedometer needles move like crazy and all the panel lights are going crazy

The horn does not work, and the door lock does not work - I currently disconnected the -ve end of the battery and will check it thoroughly in the morning - where do I start? Would this be classified as a short?

Thanks for your help in advance

just to let you know the car is fixes - bad battery
the battery shorted as it was overloaded for extended periods = 20 minutes w full stereo on as well as AC
Its my sons car and its kind of hot now and on his break when working used to sit in the car for 15 minutes w stereo on and Ac all on the battery. this must have loaded and strained the battery
Thanks
