Re: black oil Sign In

Looks like the oil is doing its job. Maybe the person that had the car before you had never changed the oil or didn't change it as often as it should have been changed. Could be sludged up in the inside of the engine and now the sythetic oil is slowly breaking down the sludge.

There is a TSB (11-06-01-004C) on oil consumption on those engines because of the air cleaning housing leaking allowing unfiltered air into the engine. If the unfiltered air is allowed into the engine it will take out the piston rings causing oil consumption. You might not see oil smoke coming out of the tailpipe because it isn't burning enough oil to produce visible smoke. All engines burn oil up to a certain amount. It only becomes a problem if it becomes excessive as your experiencing.

The TSB basically states to test the air cleaner assembly for leaks using a smoke machine and to make sure the PCV system is functioning properly. If a leak is found, replace the air cleaner assembly and the piston rings.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
