blower knocking ?

94 gmc 1500 pickup with 5.0 , with key on/engine off or start up and when you shut it off there's a thumping noise by the heat blower for about half a minute , there's a small panel type thing facing down where you can feel it and is independent of the blower speed , any ideas what it could be ?

A picture would help but sounds like a AC Heater module door actuator. Do you have all HVAC functions- defrost, vent, heat, also temp Hot to Cold....and recirculate/fresh air? I will try to find and post a diagram to help you find the thumper.

the control panel doesn't like the cold ., Vent , def. heat selector and blower speed I leave on one setting because they may not respond and the new part is like $275**. Once I get the blower out I'll see what's going on , I have the glove box out , wrapped it up for the day and will have at it next opportunity , the ECM is next to come out but then I won't be able to drive it so it'll have to wait ,thanks .

Your problem is an actuator. Taking out the blower motor isn't going to help anything. You just need o pinpoint which actuator it is by following the noise. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Ditto - I think "actuator" is stripping out. You might feel it if accessible by hand or watching it struggle, T

It'll go on and off (thumping) when you use the A/C or MAX buttons so it must be the door to allow outside air for the A/C as MAX closes this and uses cabin air from what I understand , it's not the blower but the noise originates from behind the blower motor and it looks like removing it will give you access . I'd like it to be closed for in the winter time but wonder if the vent option uses it for fresh air , when it rains in the summer and you need some fresh air with the windows up . Tomorrows work on cars day and I'll get a look at it again and see whats up , . Like I said it does stop after 30 seconds but I don't want to listen to it or leave like that .

Removing the blower motor isn't going to give you access. It's on the outside of the housing and probably not accessible without removing the dash. It shows 3.5 hours to change it. I think that dash rolls back.

? @ 28 seconds it shows the floor shifter for 4X4. That shouldn't matter for dash items? T

You won't be able to switch it from inside air (max ac) to fresh outside air.
