cars cuts off when turing wheel? Sign In

ok heres the problem my grandmother brought her car today for her 3 month oil change and other little minor fixes. I did an oil change today, replaced her air filter, and put a new serpertine belt on and the last time I did a tune up on was about a year ago. Ok its a 1997 dodge stratus 2.4L DOHC with 192k (yeah I know its alot but she WILL NOT get rid of this car no matter how much I try and tell her) and after I did these minor repairs today I test drove it and i notice if you turn the wheel sharp the car stall out it doesn't die all the way but if you continue to hold the sharp turn and keep moving forward or backwards it will die. She said it has happen before she said it took her almost 20 mins to leave the grocery store parking lot cause every time she turn sharp it would die. it doesn't matter if your going forwards or backwards. So what could this problem be. driving straight or making normal turns it drives awesome until you make a sharp turn.

Take some time to tell "Grandma" that at the end of turning the wheel to its extreme doesn't force it to steer sharper and PS pump is too stupid not to just try till a belt will squeal! Not good and the pressure would be intense in doing that.

No matter - most PS high pressure lines (or some did) use a pressure sensitive switch that as pressure went up it compensated by raising the idle much the same as some A/C compressors when engaged do that to cover the idle drop so cars don't stall.

I have found bad switches for that or them left unplugged. Still - stop turning so hard Grandma - it ain't going to go sharper!
