change from bench seat to bucket seats Sign In

Hello. I don't know much about cars but here goes... I have a '79 Pontiac Grand Prix with a bench seat and no matter how I adjust it, my feet either can't reach the petals or my chest is stuck in the steering wheel. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to install bucket seats and which ones to buy or if anyone has any other advice they could give me. Thanks.

I'm not 100% on this but I'll bet the 79 GP came with either buckets or a bench seat..
You may be able to locate original buckets for this...don't know for sure if dealer would still have access to this to check on original equipment..but thats a first stop..call/check with them about buckets option...heck and see if there still available somewhere..
If not check with Pontiac GP clubs/swap meets etc..they should still be available somewhere.

To add:
Cutlass Supreme, Buick Regal and Monte Carlo came with bucket seats so this should have them available too. Not certain but this whole bench may come out with just four bolts that will neatly snap right off if rust is involved. If you can get it out you just might be able to reset this seat or the buckets 1 or 2 inches closer to dash. If there aren't already holes to change it you might be able to just drill new holes in the hardware to get what you want.

If you don't mind the seat style not matching I think the last of these floorpans was the 88 Cutlass Supreme Classic.

I recall several folks wanting to change the seat range or height from some of these when new,
