coolant flush Sign In

Here's my dilemma:

I thought I properly flushed my coolant in my 2002 Expedition by:

-draining Radiator
-adding a container of Prestone cooling system flush and filled with water, ran engine
-drained radiator again
-filled with water and ran engine
-drained radiator again
-filled with 50/50 ratio coolant/water

This was 2 weeks ago. Today, I replaced the water pump. I didn't drain anything down first, just used a bucked to catch what ran out of the block when the pump came off.

Put new pump on. Cooling system took 2 gallons of 50/50 mix.

I've since realized that there is plug to drain the engine block of the coolant too. Now I'm wondering if there might be some residual of that flush chemical still in the cooling system since I didn't correctly drain the system of all it's coolant. I figure that whatever is remaining, it would have to be very diluted, but how much of a corrosive effect would that stuff have?

Should I just completely reflush the sytem?

Probably not enough in there to worry about. But since you seem to be capable of some DIY you can remove the lower radiator hose, remove the thermostat and run a water hose though the block till it comes out clear. Then you should be good. Since you just replaced the water pump, a thermostat would be a good maintenance repair anyway.

Don't worry about it. Nobody ever drains the block when doing that. You ran water through it twice, you'll be OK
