This is an easy one, I brought my Daughters car to have tires done and immediately after on her way to work she called and complained that it was making loud noises as well as a whisteling noise and the lights were dimming and the car was dying. Alternater????

If it's that easy why are you asking us what the problem is?

If you suspect an alternator, then test and charge the battery first and then use a digital voltmeter across the battery with the engine idling to see if it's charging or not.

sten; From the symptoms and 'noises', I'd check the serpentine drive belt, belt tensioner, and associated pulleys (i.e. water pump, idler, ect.)
