engine won't crank Sign In

Unsure96 windstar...put in new fuel pump and new starter...when you turn the key the engine only clicks, like it wants to start. put in a new starter still nthe same thing. tried about 5 trys then a loud poping sound almost like a backfire from the engine. could the engine be blown...or the fly wheel. I was also told that the starter could be blown or bad, though it was brand new. Any and all help would be hugely appreciated.

check all the fuses, and make sure that none is blown. same thing happened to me and i replaced my starter for nothing when it had nothing to do with it. it was a short circuit wire that kept blowin up the start up fuse.

could be the flywheel but not sure cause that backfire noise. Don't want to scare you but it could be your engine. I'd wait for a more experienced opinion.
