so today all of a sudden the front passenger side of my car seemed to drop, so i got out and indeed it did, now between thetop of the tire and the car there is only about 4" of clearance while the driver side has at at least 10" so what could have broke? axel, schocks, springs? 02 dodge neon with 65k miles also i just had my transmission rebuilt and someone said that the auto shop should have noticed if there was something wrong cause it could be the transaxle but i have no idea.

Probably a spring... What kind of car is it?...year ,make ,model, engine size? This will need to be inspected to verify what exactly broke..

Year, make and model will help a lot. If it is a generic vehicle, spring has broken. If specific vehicle, we need to know pertinent information. Please read the first post in this forum. Thanks. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

look in your wheel well and you will see what looks like a long shock absorber with a coil spring on it bolted to the knuckle on the bottom and at the top of the shock tower. This is a MacPherson Strut assembly and is what is on your neon. compare the two sides. the coil spring probably snapped and cause the strut to collapse or a mount broke __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

How long ago is "just had"... Maybe something was left loose? Or if its just co-incidence..something can appear ok...like a spring and break without warning ... Did you hit any potholes, anything in the road, run over anything ?

Look in there as dmac stated...look at the good side first so you can get an idea of what is supposed to look like. Then compare the other side.. Suggest taking it back in to have 'em inspect it.
