Ok, so heres the deal : my mothers car turned on the airbag warning light , so she took it to the guy that repairs the cars, and he persuaded her to buy a new car battery which by the way costed 120Euro !!!, she like payed and then she said to me that the light was fixed for a short period of time but then it came back on. they told her that the battery had low voltage ??? which i think is a lie , the car is a mercendes smart by the way,now i have some questions : Beeing a total noob myself please dont laugh : 1. is it possible that batteries cause problems to airbags ? 2Have we gotten riped off ? 3. the car repairer insiste that we bring the car to him again for a god knows what he'll charge us 4. is it even possible that he didnt even change the battery, but he cleaned it and put it back for charging us for nothing ??? please dont laugh i am serious , thanks in advance

the battery wasnt the cause of the airbag light. the light went off for a little while after the new battery because when the battery terminals are disconnected it resets the computer. yes it sounds like you got ripped off......sorry you should be able to tell if the battery is new....cause it will obviously look shiney and new, and if youve never replaced it before it would be a different brand then stock __________________________________________________ 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 Ford Ranger 2004 Toyota Corolla 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Without knowing the whole story it's hard to tell if you were "ripped off" Going of the info you provided.... A battery normally won't set a MIL for any system, but in some cases a battery can be shorted in an way the will affect a computer system....correct voltage is critical, usually in those rare cases you will get a drivablity problem. With the SRS systems most faults will reoccur almost immediately after a reset if the fault isn't fixed. You stated it was off for a short time..... If that was minutes then they did nothing for the SRS system. If it was days, then they did do something, which would be strange they didn't charge you because anything in that system is more expensive then a battery.... I would have to see the WO to know what exactly happened. SRS system are complex & no shop I know of diagnosis's those for free.... If they just charged her for a battery is sounds like it may have been weak & thats where they wanted to start ( not that I agree with that method) Batterys normally last between 3 to 7 years.... If your mother's battery was close to the end of that range, chances are if it didn't need it then......It would need it soon........
