1995 Chevy Blazer 4.3L vortec Vin: W 4WD auto trans 75k miles Was working on changing the oil and suspension parts of my truck. I ended up taking off the 2 bottom skid plates... or whatever you call them.I noticed that a hose fell down. One side seems to be connected to the top of the front diff, but I cant find where the other end goes. It looks like a vacuum hose I believe. the lose end had a plastic fitting on it but it was melted so bad I couldn't tell what it looks like. Idk if it has anything to do with it not being able to get into 4wd hi. once again I'm really confused about this truck. Just seem that once I fix one thing 3 more problems show up. Thanks for the replies. Mike

A hose to a gear case such as this is a vent for it. The end is supposed to act as a snorkle much like one used for swimming! (Mr. C. is that you?) Same idea - don't let water back in. Ok: Put hose back on diff/gearcase and the other end should just clip up higher than the gearcase such that it would be higher than any expected water - got it? If the end is really destroyed you best put something there to keep crap out but it needs to vent or gearcase could blow seals! T

Hey!!! I'm fat, but not THAT fat! Not sure on this application, but some of those transfercases' were vacuum operated. The 3/8" diameter hose would be the vent hose. If a vacuum operated system, the hose would be closer to 3/16". Loren SW Washington
