i was recently involved in an accident with a retard who ran a stop sign. The adjuster took a look and estimated the damage to be over 3500, more than my car is worth. This didnt take into count the fact my car has been making weird sounds. Anywho, the airbags deployed, is their anyway to reset them? cut them out? or what do i have to do, that DOESNT involve me buying new airbags. Would just about any mechanic know how to trip/reset the airbags? or is it something illegally done? I also have a weird tick tick sound coming from the rear passengers side of the car, it only starts once im driving , and driving over 10 mph. if i let go off the gas it doesnt tick. it kind of sounds like the bed squeaking sound, just not as rapid. What can i narrow it down too something? transmission line? exhaust? maybe a shock is loose. 2000 ford mustang Links from Mustang site removed

There is no such thing as resetting air bags. they are a one time use component. You may also have to replace the control module because they are the same way. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

i dont mean reset the airbags themselves, i mean reset the module/ whatever electronically would shut off my car. I guess what im asking regarding the airbags, is what do i have to do in order to remove my airbags, and be able to drive my car. I do not care for the airbags. And how much would a module possibly run for ?

The Airbags won't prevent your car from running. Your looking at some pretty serious money to get the system working again, probably over $1500 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

this is probably a ridiculous , and noobie question. But how would i know if i need to get a new control module ? i can still drive. and everything works fine power wise. Is the control module something that is needed once i remove the airbags?

The module is for the airbag system. It works like an airline black box so it can't be reused but it's only for the airbags. If you don't have airbags, you won't need the module but you will have a constant airbag light on. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

i appreciate your help by the way, thanks alot. So pretty much, i can remove the airbags, fix the dashboard / steering wheel where the bags came from. Not worry about the module, and just drive. I personally dont care about the air bag sign, I go to a private mechanic for inspection.

Yes, all that is true. You are ignoring the fact that the airbag could save your life in a crash though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

i know it can help, but during the accident, it did more bad then good. it hit my gf under the neck and gave her a scratch. It didnt even hit me. My seatbelts are the ones that helped me out. And i read an interesting stat, about how airbags only help save your life by 9 % . That they mostly do more bad then good. I do plan on putting them in when i have the money, but $1000 for bags, $1500 for console module is really hard and impossible for me, The settlement im going to get is 2300, with that money ill have to fix my hood, rearview mirror, and hopefully any internal problems.

I was including the cost of the bags in my $1500 estimate ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That was just a guess on the parts. You need to get real estimates. It's not illegal to drive without airbags, just foolish. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

im pretty sure this is very vague, but ive been hearing a squeaky sound, after i get to 20mph . Its coming from the rear side passengers side. When i accelerate the time between squeaks increases as well. I reved my car in neutral and didnt hear the squeaking noise, when i was braking it was kind of getting silent. and once again, thanks alot for your help. i really appreciate you taking your time to awnser my noobie questions
