odometer help !!!!

i have a 2000 saturn Ls1 my odometer doesnt work in my car what can i do to fix it myself or possibly get a portable one. see my mother had the car and a few yrs ago and it caught on fire in the steering column somewhere had the car fixed and they gave it to me a few months ago but the odometer doesnt work just shows 0.0 miles what can i do im kinda afraid to mess in that area if i can keep from it. please help me !!!!!

Does the speedometer work? If the speedo works, there is a problem inside the instrument cluster and the cluster will have to be sent off for repair by a speedometer repair shop.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
