oil pressure guage? Sign In

i have a 93 chevy cheyanne with a 305, auto trans and 2800000 kms, my question is why does my oil pressure guage go just down to just above the safe zone on idle and when i drive it goes right into the to the center of the guage? any insite is greatly apprieciated!

You do mean it goes low but in the safe zone don't you? At 173,000 miles and they can go more that V8 will do that. If you change oil to a higher viscosity like to 10w30 from perhaps 5w30 it will be better. Up it more if it bugs you but the higher the viscosity the less it likes cold starts in Winter. You could further check the oil pressure with a separate gauge. If below the safe line get on this right away or it may speed up the wear out of the engine,

yes, it is just above the safe line and i think ill try a higher viscosity oil designed for a higher milage engines.
