over revving

I have a 200o X reg citroen xsara forte 1.4. I have just changed the ignition coil as one the car kept missing and jerking about. changing the ignition coil seemed to do the trick, but know i have another problem and im not sure if its linked or not. the new problem is that when im stood still at traffic light fro example my revs increase to from just under 1000 to just under 2000. it only does this thouh every now and again and does not seem to do it when the car is cold and does not do it when to car is at its normal running temperature. it only seems to do it when the car is inbetween in temperature. the other issue is that because the car seems to be over revving the cars temperature is slightly higher than normal when on long journys. Any ideas what could be causing this as i am a novice and can repair cars successfully when i know whats wrong but have no idea when it comes to fault finding.

Just a thought: Is cooling system ok as in flushed out of any junk that may cause erratic temp and slow temp sensing for engine controls. It could be an issue with what I see from your post, T
