I need help with a overheating problem. I have a 94 Olds Cutlas Ciera S. The Catalytic converter is not plugged nor is the radiater. Pump and belts are new. Thermo reads at 195. Temp reads at 220. Is this normal. Prior to this it normaly read at first hash mark on gage between 100 and 220.

Water pump and belts don't regulate the temp. Thermostat does that but can only maintain what the radiator and fan to radiator can handle. If you are convinced the radiator and fan are working well and system has no leaks I would probably change the thermostat. If it always was steady at another spot on gauge and is steady at a new, higher spot now the t-stat could be it. It's important that it maintain a steady temp almost all the time when warmed up, T
