this is general question but is there some commonproblem that plagues the plymouth acclaim . my girlfriends car operates well but the speedometre will quit working when the high beams are turned on. other times the speedometer will quit and the lights will work other times the display on the radio will quit and the speedometer will continue to function. The whole thing has no predictable outcome and my question is does the acclaim have some sort of non standard wiring systems that makes it prone to this sort of malfunction. All the fuses are good and the battery was tested recently and was good also.in addition the only real commonality i found with the cars malfunction was when the speedometre is out so are the high beams other than this there is no rhyme or reason i can find with this electrical problem.

There nothing that comes to mind that’s specific to an acclaim but this problem sounds like a ground issue or lack of sufficient grounding for all the electrical demand that the different devices are putting on the system. Maybe check the cables from the battery negative terminal to the body; it/they should be clean, rust free and as tight as it can possibly be made. Also there is a ground strap (braided metal) that goes from the back of the engine to the firewall; it also needs to be clean and tight. Under the dash there are a few different places where you’ll find a collection of black coloured wires bolted to the metal frame work of the under dash. I’m not sure that this is a ground issue but it would be where I would start with this adventure. Dan. Canadian "EH"
