ASSEMBLY
If axle is to be replaced, replace with complete assembly.
  1. Slide oil seal retainer, oil seal, and wheel bearing on axle shaft.
  2. Install new lock nut onto new lock washer.

Tighten lock nuts to 220 ft. lbs. (300 Nm)

Caution:
  • Turn the lock nut of right-hand shaft clockwise.
  • Turn the lock nut of left-hand shaft counter clockwise.

INSTALLATION

Axle shafts are left-hand and right-hand. The left-hand shaft is 28.2 inch (717 mm) long; the right-hand shaft is 30.0 inch (763 mm) long.

Tighten nuts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).

  1. Install brake drum with four nuts.
  2. Install wheels and lower vehicle.
Tighten nuts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
