saturn bearing/spindle

Make: Saturn Year:1997 Model: sw2 Miles: 150k Problem: I had a mechanic take of the steering knuckle and I took it to get a new bearing which cost me 25$ plus the 20$ shop work. The bearing malfunctioned and tried to push it to the side and it would get stuck do to the bearing. It took 5 people to push the car. I had a friend tie his car to mine via a chain so I was told I would have to replace the spindle. Is this correct? By spindle do they mean the whole steering knuckle? what are approx parts cost? can I do it myself? thanks much <3

I just watched a couple vids, I'm not sure how well I learned, the spindle is the part from the axle, the hub is the bearing carrier and the steering knuckle connect to the hub. so I needs a new steering knuckle, and a new hub?

I think part of the problem is the terminology you are using..... This is a frt wheel drive car so the steering knuckle doesn't have a spindle attach to it. The spindle would be in the rear and there is no steering knuckle back there. So we really need to know where you exactly working, on the frt or rear?

Well going off the info provided here....... I won't say that this would be impossible for you to do yourself but it's something we probably won't be able to do online. I think you are going to need someone with experience in person to help you with this one....

Why don't you just take it back to the shop that originally did the work? Isn't there a warranty on the failed bearing?

The removal and put back of the knuckle was done by a mechanic who works outside of a shop. It was not his fault the bearing failed. I think there is only two reasons the bearing failed: 1. The machine shop did a poor compression job on the insert of the bearing. 2. The bearing failed. I just came here to know if it's possible that the knuckle or hub went bad from dragging the car with a bad bearing. I guess ill w8 till tomorrow and let the shop where they compress them to let me know, thanks.
