security system acting screwy Sign In

Hello, I have a 2002 Infiniti G20 sport and am having some trouble with the alarm system.

It started with it not making the beeping noise when i would lock it (but the lights would still flash). Then it stopped working all together, I replaced the batteries in the remote but it still wouldn't un/lock the doors. Now I noticed the horn doesn't work at all, which wouldn't be that big of a deal since I rarely use my horn but I will be needing an inspection by the end of the month and I believe a working horn is part of that. Also, i've been having to use my key to unlock the door since the remote no longer works, no big deal, BUT if i unlock the drivers side door with the key the high beams start flashing and won't stop until I use the key to unlock the passenger door. If I unlock the passenger door then the drivers side door there is no problem.

I looked around in the fuses and don't see any blown fuses, is it something with the system itself? How do I disable it? It's the stock security system that came with the vehicle. The closest dealer is more than 2hrs away so it would be a big hassle to take it there.

That's an aftermarket system. You just need to bring it to a place that installs those and they will likely have to install a new system.

Thanks! If I just disable it will it work? That way I could get the inspection done with then get a new system.

No, the interrupted circuits have to be rejoined.

Re: security system acting screwy Sign In

I called the Infiniti dealer, they said it's not a security system, perse, but rather it's all controlled through the BCM (body control module). I didn't have my VIN on me so I couldn't get a quote on how much one would be. Reading on the BCM i take it i HAVE to go to the infiniti dealer to have it installed or at least set? What i've read is you have to have the VIN, key numbers and whatnot programmed into it?

The factory security system operates through the BCM but I don't know if you are dealing with a factory system or an aftermarket at this point. If it's a factory system, the dealer is your best bet.
