I have a 03 suzuki vitara, stnd, a/c, 2.0l....200k....runs great....got the alternator and battery tested they are fine, checked all fuses...fine....she is not charging...i can run it off the battery until it dies but when I do the old fashioned trick to take the lug off she shuts off...white wire/red stripe goes to fuse box outside and black with white stripe i guess is ignition right...should i re-wire it or do you have more advice?

You need some serious testing to verify the fault. Voltage regulator is !!!!!!!!! $526 bucks!

Info can be wrong from where I got that,

While monitoring the battery voltage with a digital meter, run a jumper wire from the main terminal of the alternator output to the positive battery terminal with the engine idling and see if the voltage rises. Don't leave it on too long because the wire is too small.

In the future, don't remove a battery cable while the engine is running. That was the way of testing things 40 years ago before we dropped tons of electronics in it. So if you did that to a vehicle that did have an alternator that was charging, you will create an inductive voltage spike that can destroy modules that cost over $1000 apiece.

Now perform HT's test and let us know the results.

Just curious, but where was the wire burnt out at? Wires don't burn out for no reason.

to be more precise, the last owner must have done that wire himself and he did not protect it right and when I tested it with no voltage goint through i then traced ...it it did not go through the wire harness, instead a part of that wire was touching the manifold and basically birned it off
