tahoe air conditioner Sign In

ok my 01 tahoe has 140k miles and is a v8. the ac stoped blowing cold air. i tried adding freon and i would not take a can. i can still hear the compresser kick on and off. any other cost saving ideas that might help?

You can't begin to diagnose an A/C system until you hook up pressure gauges and get pressure readings for both high and low sides using a professional set of gauges. You shouldn't even be trying to add refrigerant without knowing the pressures because you can do extreme damage by adding too much.

Most problems are low charge. As Hammer said basically just adding refrigerant can be destructive. If a a dual system up to 6K so how much are you saving?

Pressures with front on full blast would tell a lot, rear off, raised idle and temps taken. Note - pressures count when compressor is engaged.

Look for oil staining or drips where it doesn't belong as a clue, -- shaft seal of compressor is popular area of trouble,
