timing chain removal and replacement

post icon timing chain removal and replacement Sign In

MadI need help I have removed everything to get to the timing chain but i cant figure out how to get the bottom device that the main belt pulley connects to off. i have remove the bolt and washer that goes inside but it wont come off. I forgot to tell you this is on a 1978 ford f350 with a 351m.

If your talking about the main pulley called the Harmonic Balancer, it is pressed on and requires a puller to remove it.

If you are tackling a big job you haven't had to do before. It might not be a bad idea to get a manual for the vehicle from a parts store. While techs may talk trash about them and granted the info usually isn't up to professional grade. They do provided a basic step by step for big jobs like this and may save you from making huge mistake that could waste a lot of time or do some serious damage.....
