We just got a 96 Saturn, 194K miles, 1.9 liter 4 cyl as a cheap drive-to-work car for our daughter. It had sat for several years. It runs rough at start, some better after warm-up. Haven't had it on an extended road trip as I just got the tag today, and haven't done anything to it yet. I'm planning to change the plugs. Given the age and the years sitting, would you recommend replacing anything else, such as the EGR valve? Also, where is the fuel filter located?

SOHC or DOHC?

Might as well check the whole vehicle out. That means inspecting the brake system, drive belt, and coolant hoses/system, etc. Make sure the cooling fan is operational.

Change the oil, replace the plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, etc.

You could also take the car to your local mechanic and have them check the vehicle over and tell you what is would need to make it safe.

Follow the fuel feed line and it will take you to the filter.

If memory serves me right (a 50/50 deal at my age ).You gain access thru the driver side front wheel well. Remove the spash guard to replace the filter..
