If I put a battery tester on my battery, and it drops to 10 volts and reads "weak", does this mean I need a new battery? I probably do but I don't feel like spending 200 bucks on a battery right now! What do you guys think?

I didn't perform the test on your battery so I can't tell you how accurate it was. You can have a second test by another shop if you like but I just have to laugh when people tell me that they need something but don't want to spend the money. What do you want me to say? O.K., I see what you're saying I'll spend the money, that's not an issue, but from what I told you, and all your great wisdom, what do YOU think? Do I need a battery or not? I was going to go to AutoZone, but I really don't trust them, they're just gonna say it's no good to get me to buy a battery.

Ditto: Watch out pancho as a bad battery if so in OBDII especially vehicles can take out other things that make $200 bucks look like chump change. Charge the battery with a 110v house current charger then test. If NG toss it newer or not. Your vehicle, your money, your choice, T

You can't accurately test a discharged or partially discharged battery. 1st step would be to fully charge it with a trickle charger, then check the specific gravity of all the cells. If the sp was good with no various between the cells then it would need to be load tested. If you load test a good discharged battery, the yea it will come up bad. So at this point with the info provided.....NO ONE can tell you if this battery is good or not....... This is in the A/C section because..........................why????????

Load testers are OK but the most up to dates testers measure "Battery Conductance" That will give you a display of the available CCA (cold cranking amps) which is a bit more accurate and the battery doesn't have to be fully charged. Shade Tree for checking CCA of a battery: Put headlights on and start engine noting how dim headlights dim while cranking which shouldn't be much. If so go for real testing. Dang chain outlets and real places too mishandle even new batteries. No bargains when they've been dropped and watched that crap at WallyWorld or similar places. That bargain just ain't worth it and not blaming workers but they don't know, T
