1992 Buick Regal all switches test good and have 12 volts positive at the connector and a dim ground. is the ground controled by the ECM?

Re: Clutch wont kick in Sign In

? Does this use a LPCO or thermistor for clutch control? If static is about in psi as temp in F then clutch might be out of spec but I worry about a dim ground test as I think ones that do use ECM are directing ground not +12v to engage clutch.

Will Clutch snap to with a tap when voltage is present? Carefull of course with a running engine - could be tested with engine off too. If that works and sytem works properly till cycled off again adjusting the air gap would end this problem,

Re: Clutch wont kick in Sign In

nope, ground is not controlled by ecm. if you are using a test light when you say you have a "dim" ground; then yes, you have a ground problem. there are two wires on the clutch, one "hot" when a/c is signaled to engage the other goes directly to ground. try a jumper lead from the ground side of the compressor connector to a known good ground. Other than that go back to the basics....does the system have enough freon in it to "make" the low pressure switch? Will the compressor turn? you should be able to turn the compressor by hand if it is not locked up. hope this helps, rick
