Heater problems Sign In

'03 Camry V6. Several weeks ago my heater started only blowing hot air out the floor vents....sometimes it will be somewhat warm out the defrost vent and dash vents but usually just cool air. Bad thermostat? Heating core? Is one easier to eliminate than the other to see if it's the culprit?

It's not going to be either one of those things. The fact that you get heat in one position eliminates those things. There has to be a control issue inside the car somewhere. It has an electric blend door and an electronic control head operating it. I have to tell you though, this is not a symptom I have ever heard of and it doesn't add up. It would make a little sense if this is an Auto Temp Control system though.

Not thermostat if airflow is the issue. Some will trickle to windshield with heat/floor only request but not much thru panel vents. Temp fluctuations MAY be coolant level, a diverter door. If you find coolant level low - FIND OUT WHY! That doesn't explain improper air flow but check it anyway,

If it's capable of producing heat at the floor setting, then the heater core is full of coolant and doing it's job.

Unsure of exact description if heater was involved with warming up some as well. More info or I'm interpreting or seeing it ambiguously??
