AC problem Sign In

"My 01 Towncar was blowing cold air then the air got hot and when I looked under the hood I noticed the AC Hub turning intermitently and struggling to move, then it started smoking. I turned off the AC and it stopped moving but the serpentine belt was moving fine the whole time. When i took a closer look I tried turning the hub by hand and it was not smooth and there looked to be some metal shavings around the gap. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Re: AC problem Sign In

This could be a couple different problems from as simple as a 10 minute clutch gap adjustment to needing these whole shooting match! A few metal shavings will be found. Lots is a problem. The fact that you noticed smoke is more a sign that things aren't good! With system off the clutch is just a pulley and won't hurt anything. If and and struggling it's trouble and more info would be needed to diagnose on line. That car only has one belt and if it burns off you will be walking!

Re: AC problem Sign In

The belt seems to be moving fine when the ac is off. and even when I put the AC on the only thing that sticks is the hub but the belt moves fine the whole time even when the hub freezes up. Thanks for the reply!
