ac repair Sign In

Hi there,
The a/c in my car is blowing out less cold air than usual, so i figure it needs a refrigerant. Does anyone know the location of the a/c point under the hood of a 2003 Honda Civic GX 1.7L L4 SOHC 16V?
I have tried looking online for this car, but can only find explanation and youtube video`s, for a 2006 Honda, and later models.
All i know is that the refrigerant is 134a, as i found that under the hood lid.
Can anyone help me out so that i can get this a/c working and so that i will not be roasting in the summer heat like an overcooked chicken !!!
Thank you.

Best bet for you slymonkey is just send it out. Vehicle A/C is a whole trade of knowledge unto itself plus mega thousands in equipment to properly diagnose and repair many times.
If still some cool now just less than you expect the sooner the better to get this diagnosed and fixed or risk it getting lots more costly and might be already?

Re: ac repair Sign In

Thank you Sir, for the reply to my question, regarding the a/c.

I was hoping that it would be something that i could do instead of paying a high price to get it repaired. Especially since i have just put in over $3000 for this car, which includes a new cat converter, new ignition, ball joints, and a new seat belt (driver side).
I saw on youtube that once you find the part near the engine, it`s a case of lifting off the cap, and attaching the gauge with the can and start the flow of the refrigerant. I guess it`s not that simple.

I will heed your advice and make my go to garage happy again for another repair.Laugh

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my post.

Good move. I'm here to help you not discourage you but dang A/C if done wrong can wipe the whole show up when you don't know yet. I'll venture the guess you are in fact low on "refrigerant" the gas that does the magic of A/C. Also know a pump or this case "compressor" like anything the pumps usually whatever it is requires lubricant.

It's just a couple issues as it begins to warm up output temps then quit if still compressing or trying to the oil doesn't circulate so you destroy the whole show tons of parts wrecked by debris that probably just some small something is the reason or plain age yet to be found out you might be really pleased and it's not costly as things COULD go.
I'll try to be basic as I can. It's condensing a gas to a liquid, cool that liquid then allow it to evaporate where wanted to blow cool air isn't by itself rocket science plain water on your skin (sweat) evaporating cools you just less complicated.

It's just lousy systems are designed such that they'll work a little for a while so you have a chance now it's not destroyed just have to trust what is found is easy and be done with it.

It's also mandatory now to charge the exact weight while it's a liquid machines can do that - you can't so at best might just get lucky but risking a lot.
Seriously it's not nice to engineer systems to really shut totally down before disasters but most will self destruct first. Overcharging is the other. You could put too much in with a common thought that "the more the better" and liquid returns to be compressed hope it cuts off or choke on liquid that can't be compressed, gaseous vapor can.

That's as crude as I can explain it in lay terms without going techno city on you it takes learning what it's doing and the equipment to know it's right plus experience to find the problem with the skills to fix it FIRST.

Good luck. Hope it's just something simple and be done with it I think you have a decent chance if any cooling effect now it's not a disaster but will be if you do nothing,

Re: ac repair Sign In

I totally agree with Tom. I have made a living out of repairing the damage people cause by trying to fix their own AC.

A $150 evac and recharge can suddenly turn into a $2000 disaster if done wrong.
