First rule out a leaking heater core. Coolant may be low or the windows may get a fog that doesn't just clean up easily. Engine coolants don't smell so great but there are other causes. If this car uses a cabin air filter (don't know) then certainly replace it. Some cars exposed to lots of pollen, little pine needles or whatever can get a moldy smell out of the distribution/heater box. If it's growing junk in there it can usually be dealt with, with like Lysol down the vents by wipers (outside) and under dash where most cars take in air for recirculate mode. With heat + defrost most of the air is coming in from the wipers, goes down so water will not blow at you with a drain that could be gucked up and smelly. If you are dealing with ice and snow that hasn't melted back yet that aggrevates the air flow and makes some odor of its own too, T
