Noise coming from axle Sign In

2010 Honda Accord 2.4l 190000 miles

I have a scrubbing noise that turns to a knocking noise around 60 mph and quietens back down about 75mph. It comes from the transmission side of the the drivers side axle. Axle was replaced in the fall. Noise has consistently gotten worse. Please help.

Have you checked for anything loose and flapping in the wind?

Exactly! Good one HT. OP check the "air dam" under bumper and inner fenders (plastic junk) just plastic clips holding plastic isn't so strong and if ever removed do NOT work twice well,

Re: Noise coming from axle Sign In

I have it on jack stands and the tires off. The noise is coming from where the axle joins the transmission. So no chance of loose material. Is there no bearing or grease point that I’m missing? Is it dangerous?

How do you know it is coming from the transmission output? This can't be tested on a jack because the spider gears kick in and you can't know that from inside the car going down the highway.

It will engage enough to make the noise. This forum will not allow me to upload a video but I am certain that the noise is coming from the spot of connection.

Re: Noise coming from axle Sign In

No, you can't be certain of that.

The differential uses side gears to compensate for one wheel turning faster than the other on turns. When the wheels are off the ground you cannot get both wheels to turn at the exact same speed to deactivate the side gears. These gears make all kinds of noise so it is impossible to isolate any other sort of noise.
