1991 Mercedes 300TE w/self level suspension, 3.0L, Base Model The power steering fluid had leaked out from a loose fitting and caused the pump to make noise. I tightened the fitting and filled it with fluid but, the noise was still there. A friend of mine suggested I turn the wheel steering from lock to lock to remove the air in the system. (Found out that wasn't the thing to do.) The noise went away but the power steering is non existent. There is no assist. So, my questions are: Have l ruined the pump? Does it need to be rebuilt? How do I completely purge the system of air?

The easiest way is to just walk away from it. The air will rise to the top, then top it off before starting it. Repeat if necessary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
