Power steering pump failure

I have a 2006 Grand Caravan. The power steering pump is starting to fail. It makes a light whining noise on short trips but since I only drive it 10 miles a day it hasn’t been a priority. I have already replaced the reservoir and the noise continues so I am pretty sure that is the root cause. The fluid level is okay. I am going to be going camping over the weekend and would love to use it for all my gear but am leery of it breaking down along the way. The campsite is about 100 miles away. I don’t have the time to replace the pump before I get and can’t afford to pay someone either. My question is two fold; is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the pump and does the pump always leak before it seizes? I know this situation is far from idea but any advice would be appreciated

If you want to try to flush out for new fluid I would. If no time or way to do total job get right new fluid and suck out of the reservoir and refill it, run it, steer in both ways fully and do that again and again. Take it for a ride and see if it goes away. I have had that work sticky or just noisy a bit. If no results fast enough and a trip planned think hard about tending to it now and not be stuck away from home base or risk more damage than just a pump. These and many run very hot to me under the hood the fluid just doesn't like that and doubt it's on any list to change it now and then but probably should, T
