Rim going into tire

I recently took my wheels off of my car to clean the calipers and the rotors. I put them back on and have been driving around the past few days without a problem. I noticed today that the rim is going into the tire and leaving chewed up rubber. Clearly this isn't supposed to happen, so I'm wondering what is going on and how I can fix it. Here's a picture of it http://i42.tinypic.com/ezkfw6.jpg

Might want to swing into a tire shop and have them take a look. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I just don't understand why taking them off for just five minutes to clean behind them did this.

Watching this without too much to add. No, nothing about just taking them off and back on I can think of is doing this. Is it one or all of them? Is it getting worse? Any chance someone even if not you drove this with very low tire pressure to near flat but if all that doesn't make sense? Just why were you cleaning calipers and rotors unless some funky deal where you have them colored or something and can see them thru the wheels? What did you clean them with? Paint stripper or something might be a problem if you got it all over the place?? T

It's just the front two wheels. I took them off yesterday since I didn't have enough time to do all four wheels. The tires have plenty of air in them, so I don't think it's that. I was just cleaning them because originally I had parked it in some seriously gross mud (and other things) and couldn't get the whole thing with just a hose. I didn't use an paint stripper or anything, just water. Would it be worth taking them off and trying to push the rim back out by hitting the center of the hub on the backside?

What ever the heck it was exposed to in that "seriously gross mud" is probably the problem from the get go whatever it was. Back to DS's suggestion, get them looked at if even safe to drive it as things like that don't just happen for no reason and you have one if stuck or whatever in some unknown yuck who knows? Spinning wheels to get out if so would be on the maybe list of damaging them, T

Would it be worth my efforts to take the wheel off and use a mallet on the backside of the center hub to try and push it back into place?

I don't have a clue what you are thinking. A tire on a rim is either the right tire on the right rim or not minus damage to wheel or tire and that means replacing them. I really don't know as just said what you mean but if you think you can change the position of a tire on a rim with a rubber mallet you'll be in for a surprise as that won't work. Something must have gone all wrong with that mud deal - same suggestions - get them checked by a tire dealing place, shop, tire only or whatever, T
