Trying to Remove Control Arm Bolt

Hello, I'm new here. And I'm gonna start off and say I'm not much of a mechanic at all, I'm just learning as I go over the years.. I'm trying to take off my control arm on my 97 mustang. It took a little wrestling but I was able to break free the bolt.. after a few spins the bolt seemed to get caught up on something, so when I pull up on the wrench something pulls it right back down when I let go. I assume its caught on the rubber bushing? If its seized to the bushing, then what's the best way to attack this situation? I been fighting it for a few hours now. Would of taken it to a real mechanic but the car wasnt driveable and it's not worth towing.. be easy on me lol

The common bushing would likely be metal inside, stuck/glued to rubber and metal again on outside with that bolt thru the center. The center metal sleeve is stuck to that bolt so you are just turning the rubber parts. Doubt you have the tools and said unwilling to spend money on it I take that as more tools, a tow plus said the whole thing isn't worth it so seems you come to the end of this vehicle. If you still want to learn things on it keep it and find out what else comes apart of fights with you and just sell it off for salvage is pretty much what you are saying isn't it? T

Yes, the inner sleeve of the bushing is stuck on the bolt. Your next step depends on whether you are planning to replace that bushing or the whole control arm. If so, you can burn out the rubber portion of the bushing with a torch and loosen the inner sleeve with heat. If you have to reuse that bushing, then you are going to have to spray some rust buster type chemical in there and try to work it free. That could take some time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Can you torch/cut the bolt head off and drive the bolt out with a punch?
