I have an 01 Olds Alero, 3400 V6, approx 78k miles. A few days ago while driving noticed that the sound a car makes when it is ready to shift (high rpms) did not diminish once the car shifted and the rpms dropped down. It shifts smoothly, and runs fine (have had the car since Sept 09). I am not able to check the transmission fluid as there is no dipstick since from what I understand, it's supposed to be maintenance free. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Its not maintenance free, just the engineers have made it impossible for the normal guy to do his own maintenance or even check his fluid level. The first time I ever saw that style of transmission I think my opinion on it that I expressed tainted the vocabularies of everyone for about 6 blocks. When was the last time this was serviced? Granted you haven't had the car long, but hoped perhaps got some maintenance records with it. I would try getting it flushed and crossing your fingers.
