I have an 06 F150 4.6 2wd with 102,000 miles on it. I was changing the trans oil and filter on it like always but this time as soon as i popped the filter off a yellow plastic piece fell out with it. Im not sure where its supposed to go but im guessing its safe to say thats why the transmission wont engage any gear. The piece somewhat resembeles a mushroom tip with a about a 2inch thin stem, it has an O-ring around the middle of the mushroom and the tip of it is hollowed out. Any information as to where this may go will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The yellow thing is normal its plug installed from the factory falls out when filled with fluid.. just discard.. did you remove the old filter gasket, before installing the new filter if not use the end of a 3/8" extension and pry out the old gasket.

Really? I assumed that it served a purpose since it had an O-ring installed

It did serve a purpose. It held the fluid in the transmission until the dipstick tube was installed and then it was left inside the transmission because it was harmless. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
