1992 Diamante LS stuck in 3rd gear.....

I have a 1992 Mitsubishi Diamante LS 3.0 V6 DOHC it is stuck in 3rd gear or possibly fail safe mode not sure which main brain cpu has been replaced and am about to replace the TCU will that fix my problem??? or is the TCU the problem to begin with??? please help??

It is possible that you have a shorted shift solenoid. You may want to bring this to a trans. shop for diagnosis. Just replacing the trans control module on a guess is going to cost you more in the long run. Steve

I just bought the car previous owner is giving me a brand new TCU with the car I'm just curious if it will fix my problem dont really want to throw alot of money at this car... but from what you are saying a bad shift solenoid will cause the car to do that also.....

The problem could either be electrical or mechanical. Since I don't have your car in front of me, it's impossible for me to tell you the problem. If you are getting a free TCM, then put it in. But, if a solenoid shorts, it can spike a computer and fry it. If this turns out to be the case here, expect that new TCM to suffer the same fate. That is why I suggest you take it to a shop to get it diagnosed. The need for complex tools, expensive computers, and a whole lot of diagnostic experience is what it takes to fix today's vehicles.
