1994 Mazda 626 CDF4E Tranny Sign In

Help is needed. I bought this 1994 Mazda 626lx automatic with the Ford(FixOrRepairDaily), about 3 months ago and was told that the transmission had been rebuilt 6-8 months ago. Before the Happy Tag ran out, I put 2 new front tires, new brakes(all around), complete tune-up and washed it at least 3 times. Anyhow when I first got it and test drove it, it drove fine in D. I didn't put it in the lower gears D1,D2, because I figured they were alright to. After going up my first steep hill, and putting it in D1, I noticed it was slipping bad.. And the Hold light came on and commenced to flashing, until I took the bulb out. I figured it to be a faulty sensor like most cars have on them. I drove it to Oklahoma and back one weekend, about 700 miles round trip, and it ran fine up there and back. But a week after that, I was going to a town north of Austin to see my daughter, and as I was driving down the Interstate-35, at about 65mph, the transmission stopped, but the engine didn't, so I coasted it to a safe place to park on the shoulder. Anyhow, I've heard that the Protege 5 or Es will fit in the car. So Im thinking, instead of putting the CDF4E back in it, put the Protege one in it, for better luck. I have gotten Estimates on Rebuilding it($3000), putting one already rebuilt in it($1380+$400 for installing), or a used one $450 for the Tranny and $400 to put it in. Can anyone give me any advice on which option would be best. The $3000 dollar one is out of the question!, so only 2 options are left. Any help will be appreciated.

Gary P.
