A while back I purchaced a 95 lumina with 192k miles with a bad 4t60e trans and ended up getting a used transmission for 150 bucks and changing it in my driveway. I have never done any internal transmission work but i've always been interested in learning so i'm attempting to repair the old transmission from the lumina In hopes to gain experience so that I can fix the similar transmission in my 2001 grand prix. To start out with, the old trans did not have reverse and it felt as if only 1st and 2nd gear worked when I put it in drive. When I drove it home I had to use the back roads because it would only reach speed of about 30 to 35 mph. So knowing this, I have disassembled the transmission and was able so see that the reverse reaction shell was broken on one side which would explain the rattling noise it made while in park. I have yet to pull out the clutches to check for any breakage as it has turned dark outside and I ran out of time today. What would more than likely cause only 1st and 2nd gear to work and not 3rd or 4th? Another thing, I was able to get the whole valve body assembly off but I cannot take it apart because I accidentally stripped the heads of the two t30 torx bolts while trying to remove them. One I tried with a drill pressing hard and it stripped it bad and fast, the other I did by hand and stripped it slow. How In the world am I ever gonna get those out? Any bright ideas would be great. They are in tight triangle like nooks.
