1997 Dodge Neon 4 cylindar single cam 130k miles I have a 5 speed, and as I was parking the stick shift felt like it disengaged from the rest of what makes the parts move. Sorry for the lack of car knowledge btw. I can move it up and down with no real resistance, not like what it should feel like, and in the middle, where i'd usually start going left or right, it feels like somethings there. I cannot move side to side, no matter what. The car turns on, and it doesnt seem to be in neutral, but thats most of what i know. Help?

If memory serves me correctly, there are 2 cables that run from the shifter to the transaxle. One of these cables either broke or disconnected.

The cables where it attaches to the tranny have a rubber bushing that rot after time, had the same problem myself. I used a nylon bushing , fender washer, and a codderpin. That was 30k ago.
