2000 chevy s-10 transmission issue. Sign In

Hello my trans was shifting hard. And it wouldn't always up shift when kicking in the passing gear. Checked the fluid it was brown. Drained trans and broke the shift solenoids dropping the pan. Replaced them and put a bottle of Lucas in and added trans fluid to the proper level. Hard shift is gone. And the passing is working. But now when starting out 1st gear seams to slip. After its in 2nd it good through all the gears. Thanks Allen.

Hi Allen: Site has a trans specialist and expect him by at some point. It's frequently its own specialty but known from training and do just lacking lots of it.

First - brown fluid is plain not a good sign for an automatic trans from wear alone strongly suggests to me as a wearing item too that its time has come for an overhaul. There are plain wearing parts that don't heal on their own nor magic in a bottle to do more than buy time or can make it worse.

Wait for more suggestions but asking what broke solenoids? YOU or found them that way?

Expect an overhaul to really put it back in order and dependable for the long run,

T

Hello,
Did youby chance put a new filter in this unit, if so, where did you get it. Also, when you refilled the trans did youlook at both sides of the dipstick? I keep shift solenoids in stock, im always getting calls from the local stations that service these transmission, happens alot. What brans solenoids did you get OE? Gary

No i didn't do the filter. Reason is i did a trans on my jimmy. They gave me 2 choices and i put the wrong one in
and ruined the trans. Even put the other filter in and it still failed. Yes checked both sides of the dip stick. The solenoids were car quest from advanced.

Hello,
Ok, i actually never heard of car quest brand, next thing i would like you to do is when your taking off in drive and youfeel it slip or maybe it feels heavy off the line, put the shifter into manual one and see if it still feels the same or does it feel better. Gary

ok, so if it feels better, it may be starting out in 2nd gear, possible faulty shift solenoid, just to confirm it didnt do this before? I know you dropped the pan, was that just to service the trans? Gary

I changed the fluid because it was shifting hard. Almost like it had a racing valve body. And it wouldn't up-shift after kicking in the passing gear. And the fluid was brown. But it did take off fine prior to the change. When i start out in drive it does up-shift 3 times. But slips in 1st.

Hello,
Getting back to the hard shifting problem for a moment, this may have been high line pressure, did you ever have this car scanned for codes? Gary

I forgot to ask you how reverse is, if reverse is good, that would eliminate your pump, filter and pressure reg valve, im not sure why this was shifting hard, but at this point you may have an issue with your foward clutch or low sprag. with your scanner can you see live data?

Reveres is good. My scanner is only a basic one. I wish it could record live data.

At this point you may have an internal problem, do any transmission shop offer a free check, or go to one and ask them to road test the car
