2001 Honda Odyssey not shifting right. Sign In

2001
Honda
Odyssey
3.5 L V6 210 h
aproximately 60,000 miles

after starting it in the morning and shifts it into drive it acts as if it's in neutral but then after a short time it shifts into drive. It shifts just fine the rest of the time, it only occurs after it's been sitting overnight. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

If the fluid level is correct, a possibility is that you have a problem with the torque converter check valve allowing the torque converter to drain out when the vehicle sets for extended periods of time. If it only does this in drive, but goes into reverse just fine, then you probably have hydraulic leak in the D4 circuit somewhere when the fluid is cold.

Best bet would be to swing into a transmission repair shop and have them diagnose the problem.
