I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLS , 4.0 engine, 4x4, 136,000 miles. Transmission was rebuilt about a year ago, and has been great up til last night. We parked it,went out to go away this morning and it would not even try to go into gear. No matter what gear your in its like its in neutral. We crawled underneath and took the center out of the drain/fill plug and found that the fluid level and color were good. Do you have any suggestions orknow anything else I can check before having to take it to a pricy garage? Thanks , Mike

Are we talking about an automatic or standard? Hey there's something new to me everyday but doesn't this have a dipstick for trans fluid level if automatic or you may have just checked a transfer case, T

It is an automatic, and it does not have a dipstick. Came from factory that way. Thanks,Mike

OK: Either way transmissions are not my specialty but certainly part of tech training. You checked a gear case and in that it doesn't move you need to know if the ATF is clean and full first. If not then why. If reading is good then make sure linkage is actually working and then if it is it sounds like trouble again and it can happen, T

Hunter; If this has a manual transfer case, make sure someone didn't 'kick' it into Neutral. Easy to do. Loren SW Washington
