2003 Blazer Acceleration/Reverse issues Sign In

I drive an '03 Blazer (4.3L automatic, with approx. 210K on it). Lately I have been having an issue with acceleration. Every so often, when I step on the gas, the revs go up, but the speedometer doesn't. It then eases back and the speed matches the revs.

Also, when I go in reverse, sometimes it feels like when I step on the gas there is nothing, and then it goes (with a little jolt).

I noticed the forward acceleration issues for a couple weeks or so prior to the reverse issues becoming a problem. Are these transmission issues? Do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone?

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Whats the transmission fluid look like? Full/Low? Red/Brown? From what you described, sounds like transmission issues. Do you know if this is the original trans?

I'm not really that car savvy, so I have not checked any fluid levels lately. What would certain colors mean as far as tranny fluid goes?

Brown fluid, burnt, contaminated, milky fluid, anything but nice clean red (in this case) fluid is no good. Fluid level is very important too. Check your fluid as recommended (usually idle in park, vehicle level) If your not mechanically inclined, it might be time to get it hauled to a shop for diagnosis.... Unfortunately driving it like this for weeks is very bad, likely damage done.

For sure checking fluid leval would be first check- BASIC ROUTINE should not be new or a challenge.
A 2003 would be a OBDII system AND it would report transmission issues...

get a FREE scan done at one of the auto part stores- autozone, Orielys, advance - get the codes and post thme here someone will advise.... its FREE!!!

Does this mean it has never been serviced in its so far 210K life? 210K on a 4L60E, that has never been cracked open, is kind of rare. Low reverse clutches probably worn out. Drop the pan and see what is laying in the bottom.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
