2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Auto trans, 5.7 Hemi. about 35k miles. This truck was a "Florida" truck until this summer. I moved up here to NY. Well, the truck has sat for about two weeks. It has been very cold, sub freezing for the last few days. I went to drive the truck today. Started fine, let her warm up for a few minutes. It was warm enough that the temp gauge was about 1/2 way to normal running temp, but not all the way "warmed up". I went to put it in reverse, and there was about a two second delay before the gear shifted. Then, when i stepped on the gas, nothing. just engine rev. no movement. i tried again, and i found that i had to give it more gas than normal to get it to move. Then, when i got into the street, i put it in drive, and again the two second delay before the gear engaged. When i stepped on the gas, it was very sluggish. I noticed at this point the check engine light had come on. I checked fluid level, and its good. It looks bright red, like it should. Even when fully warm the truck is still sluggish, with a delay in the gear engagement after shifting from park to drive or reverse.

Well, it sounds like an internal trans. problem, but...You may have more than one thing going on..Have the PCM scanned and let us know what code was set. Although not likely, could be a TPS problem. Be sure to check the fluid with the engine warm, idling, and level. If you haven't had the trans. serviced yet, it is time. Loren SW Washington

so it isn't related to the cold? i wondered if they had different fluids for different parts of the country, but i guess that doesn't make sense does it? I'll have the comp checked and let you know what code they give me. It bothers me though, as this truck has run perfectly from the day it was purchased new, and then it sits for two weeks in the cold and has issues.
