2005 Honda CR-V transmission died Sign In

I was driving my 2005 Honda CRV when suddenly the engine would rev up, but the car wouldn't go anywhere. Essentially, it acted as if it were in neutral. I had it towed to Honda and they told me that the problem is internal to the transmission and recommended replacing the transmission. Now, I am not going to put $4900 into a car with 260,000 miles on it. However, are there any repairs that a place like AAMCO could do that would be, let's say, < $1000 in this situation?

Also, assuming that the car is not repairable at a reasonable price, would I be able to get any kind of trade-in value for this car when I buy a new car?

Thanks.

!260,000 miles - car is done IMO. Never mind that trans redone at cost for just parts is close to $3,000 then need to add whatever might break in the course of replacing it.

Unless you have a remarkable history of incredible care and a prior redo of trans this car is at its salvage value. Call local salvage places and ask about used and if they swap them out or who might for them but I can't see it costing less than a couple grand for even that with no real guarantee that this car has much more in it overall.

If you want to spend another tow and diagnosis to be sure it's really up for an overhaul or not do so but if you haven't done plain wearing parts redo on a car of those miles it's lurking all the time anyway IMO mind you.

I wouldn't even look at a used car with those miles for more than assorted good parts for another,

I'm sure you could find a independent shop that would rebuild for the $2500 to $3000 range but I agree with Tom that it wouldn't be financially practical to invest that much into that car. They all wear out sooner or later.

More than likely, the problem with your trans is the clutchs flake off and clogg the screen which is inside the trans. To verify that once it stops moving turn the car off for about 5 min. start back up see if it moves again(you wont get very far but its just a test). point of info trans should go for betwwen 2500-2800(thats about what i would get in ny). Heh, that's what I figured. Thanks for all the replies. I justed wanted to make sure there wasn't some reasonable fix that I didn't know about.
