2006 Sonata Sign In

Ok here goes

2006 Hyndai Sonata
3.3l
120, 000 miles
One day I was backing out of a space at my work and it felt like I accidentally put my car into neutral. So I checked and no I was in reverse but no reverse.
Luckily I had enough momentum to make it out of the space. I put it into drive and drove it home, no problems through all of the gears. Then the check engine light came on and it reads codes p0732, p0733, p0734, p0736. The code varies depending on how fast I drive the car. If it has to shift a lot it will go into fail safe mode and lock into 3rd gear. The codes translate into input output sensor error. Can anyone tell me if that sensor could cause this problem or is there something mechanical wrong with my trans. The fluid level is good and it does not smell burnt.
Please help

Re: 2006 Sonata Sign In

We had a sonata in our shop while back with same symptoms (we are ford dealership). We called hyundai there was a TSB for Powertrain Control Module (TCM).. We ended up replacing it in the end. Maybe somone here can look up TSB for that year. Maybe it applys for that year .. can't remember what year the one in our shop was.

Pirate Well I finally took the plunge and took it to the dealer. They said that the trans is shot. I am getting a second opinion tomorrow at a shop that some people have recommended. I do have a question for some of you guys though. I am looking into possibly getting a used transmission (it has a 1 year warranty on parts and labor). I wonder if that is a good way to go or not?

Re: 2006 Sonata Sign In

USED!

That could stir up a lot of argument and justly so either way.

If you really know what you're dealing with AND the quality of the product along with a warranty that will help or pay labor if it fails AND the price justifies it.

More: You should be able to know lots about where a major new part came from and a history on it. If all lines up and a cooperating shop will do the work go for it. Others will disagree and it does matter exactly what quality of salvage place you are dealing with and the installing tech(s)+shop of course,

Good luck whatever you do,

T

Ya i would take it to a tranny shop and get re-furbed, new or rebuild the one you got.. atleast you'll get guarantee.. probably be fairly exspensive for used one anyways because of the year.
