2016 jeep compass jumping jerking lurching Sign In

Hello I have a 2016 Jeep Compass that's having transmission problems. It has been jumping, knocking, slipping, skipping and shifting hard while driving and even sometimes will Lurch when in park when started. my jeep has 99500 km or so so the warranty is running out in 500 kilometres. I took it to the dealer for warranty and they told me it only needed a fluid change. When they first looked at it they said the fluid look really dark and that there might be some particles in it but when they did it they said there were no particles in it and that now it's working fine. Something doesn't seem right to me or am I wrong , thanks in advance for your answers

Please note this site/forum has a trans specialist may or may not be by soon so just some suggestions:

Documents: Do you have what you just said in writing of any format to bring up AFTER it passes the 100,000 KM mark?

It's late/early here EDT US just FYI with the well known world virus problem ongoing is changing the tune of everything.

First you said THEY said "DARK WITH PARTICLES" in fluid? Does that mean they checked what came out to find that not so? Now with new fluid it's behaving?

IMO and experience changing ATF is for prevention NOT a solution either extends time or can shorten it in doing so? Either way a problem if dark is why the answer is overheated from friction that is/was normal or not couldn't keep fluid in proper range it burned it to change color. Not good and the sign of it needing an overhaul.

Back to top - document what happened such that AFTER that 100KM the problem was noted and you sent on your way. Each unique vehicle with warranty like this will have new a list to follow for services almost without any doubt if you missed or a prior owner anything that could involve this YOU OWN THIS PROBLEM LATER if so I say they should but not up to me.

Good luck, keeps documents in order just anyway for things like this,

Tom

Hello,
Is this a CVT trans, If so, sometimes old fluid and low fluid will cause the clutches and belt to slip, these transmissions run under very high pressure and the fluid should be changed every 25K miles. I fixed many shuddering issues on these type of units just by changing the fluid as well. Gary

It is th 6 speed automatic not the cvt. It is currently sitting at the dealer in the shop because the water pump also went which also seems soon for this mileage Imo. So this would be about below 60k miles (I'm in Canada). We bought this car use from them only 6 months or so ago and they said it went under a thorough mechanical inspection before we bought it.

To exactly quote what I have on paper from the original inspection after the transmission started having problems the technician said:

" verified customer concern updated PCM for better ships, did not change concern, inspected for leaks but there was none to be found, inspected fluid and found it very dark and runny with small specks of debri in oil, would recommend service to see what might be found at the bottom of the pan."

I have been appealing to them to provide a different car as I cannot rely on this one as a family vehicle and I'm in no financial position to repair transmission problems after the hundred thousand kilometre warranty mark.

If for any reason I'm unable to I had planned on getting it in writing with the assurance that the transmission would not be an issue for an additional amount of kilometres I was thinking 50K to 100k

Yeah, good luck with that.
