4x4 shifts in in by its self, while driving, and some times won't shift out.
Four wheel is on the floor.

Does the transfer case engage by itself or is the 4wd light coming on even though the transfer case isn't engaged?

Yours has the mechanical shift on the fly transfer case. The engagement is mechanical by the shift lever, but there is a module that controls the electromagnet clutch and the front end actuator. The module also turns on the 4wd and low lights depending on the position of the electrical switch down on the transfer case.

Do a visual of the transfer case wiring and make sure it isn't grounding out or rubbing on anything. You may need to monitor the switch inputs to be sure you don't have some sort of false input causing the module to lock the front end and turn on the electromagnetic clutch. Also inspect the shift lever linkage and make sure it isn't sloppy.
